Just to Keep Things Going....

What a difference a day makes!  Yesterday I was new and nervous, but the encouragement came showering in and made me feel right at home :)  A whole new social experience made possible by the upside of technology.  It's especially amazing to people of "my age" .  For example, I know it wasn't called technology back then, but my first experience on the phone was to crank the handle and say to the live operator, "Green 3-5", my Grandmother's number!  Okay, my father raised mink and we didn't live in town.  Dial phones came soon after.  My hubs just said I'm dating myself!  I am what I am and some of you will kindly relate!  Now here's what you came for, jewelry!

  1. Hi Sharon, gosh golly your jewelry is beautiful! And we drove through Minocqua when we were in WI. So beautiful up there. Ah, the phone. OK I'll date myself along with you. My uncle Johann had one of those crank handle phones. He lived on a farm in rural, very rural, northern IA where I grew up. I loved that phone! And don't forget party lines. I grew up with a party line and when mum wasn't looking we were all of the time lifting the receiver to listen in on the neighbors.

Welcome to the land of the blog!

  2. Party lines... some younger people I know just think it's wild the way you could listen to other people's phone conversations! I think our ring was two longs.

  3. LOL! I remember party lines on the telephone, and they certainly don't mean what they mean NOW!

  4. Ahhh - dial phones:-) They weren't that bad after all. When I look at all the "smart phones" today I feel completly stupid.

  5. I haven't thought of party lines in forever. I also used to listen in...especially after I started dating the son of that family. Made life interesting. When we broke up, Mom had to request that we no longer shared a party line with that family. And yeah I heard about it for quite a while.
